Lesley Gore, who rose to fame in 1963 with "It's My Party", has died. She was 68.
Gore, who had a number of hit songs, including "Judy's Turn to Cry," "You Don't Own Me," and "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows," also composed tracks for the film "Fame" in 1980. She was nominated for an Academy Award for one of the songs "Out Here on My Own."
Gore was openly gay. In 2004 she hosted the PBS television series "In the Life", which focused on LGBT issues. She revealed in a 2005 interview that she was a lesbian.
Gore leaves behind a partner, Lois Sasson.
According to her partner of 33 years, Gore died Monday, February 16, 2015 at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, of cancer.
