American singer-songwriter Tameka "Tiny" Harris, best known as a member of the multi-platinum R&B group Xscape and her marriage with rapper T.I., has admitted to getting plastic surgery in order to change her eye color permanently.
Harris, 39, has made the headlines while promoting her new VH1 reality series as fans noticed that her eyes changed dramatically.
The truth is that "Tiny" Harris, whose real name is Tameka Cottle-Pope, wasn't wearing colored contacts, but a plastic surgery was performed on her eyes. Although Tameka has kept silent about plastic surgery in the past, only recently revealing to succumbing to plastic surgery, this time she spoke out about the operation on social media.
In an accompanying caption with a selfie of her new eye color, the TV personality noted that her new image isn't the result of temporary contacts, but permanent surgery.
"I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants," Tameka said.
"Special thanks to #Spencer Vessa for all that you've done to make the process happen. You're amazing and thank you #faiza for your exceptional customer service," Harris added.
When asked in an interview about his wife's new appearance, rapper T.I. pretended that he didn't know anything about the surgery, replying: "I don't know. I don't know. If she's coming up here for something maybe you can ask her but I don't know."
Harris further explained on the operation in another post, promoting the Brightocular website.
While the star is excited about the procedure, which uses iris implants to change the eye color, the operation is not FDA approved.
Dr. James Tsai, a glaucoma specialist at Yale University, told The Grio that eye color change procedures have huge risks involved including glaucoma, scarring of the cornea, cataracts and blindness. He also relates that when one patient tried to have the implants removed, her iris ripped, destroying her vision.
Tameka has since removed her social media announcement, but she is still talking about her new look in her promotional appearances.
The artist confessed to ABC News' Deborah Roberts that she even traveled to Africa to change her eye color from brown to gray.
"They are ice gray. That's the color I purchased," Tiny revealed.
"They go into the eye and they make a little slit," the reality star said of the procedure that uses a medical-grade silicone, noting: "They take an implant and it's folded up. They open it (and) spread it over your eye".
"They told me that the procedure was going to be quick, five to 10 minutes an eye," she went on, adding: "They woke me up. It was very blurry, then it kind of fades in."
Needless to say, Harris has received mixed comments about her results from fans on social media, with many slamming her decision.
Tameka, though, remains happy with her results, supporting her choice.
"I just wanted to do something different," Harris was quoted as saying, adding: "And I have the right to do that. It's my body."
The star's honesty about the operation is really surprising as she has never openly discussed her plastic surgeries over the years, only recently admitting to getting a boob job some time ago.
